The
definition of an apologetic is one who offers or expresses an
excuse or apology. From a religious standpoint an apologetic
provides compelling arguments and content in support of their
theological position, hoping to convince or appease those who
are in opposition. The Foundation for Christian Studies (FCS)
is not an apologetic organization for any religion, nor an
apologetic organization for any positions related to
Christianity.
Most regrettably however, with the FCS Christian orthodoxy
closely aligning itself with that of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints, there sometimes arise individuals
and institutions that go on the offensive and argue, sometimes
passionately, against the LDS convention of Christianity. Many
of these individuals and institutions have become quite adept
to defending their position, often with carefully crafted
content generated from websites, pamphlets, and other media.
The amount of content dedicated to anti-LDS themes is
staggering, indicating the level of fervor surrounding the
subject. While some of the purported content is interesting
and intriguing, even amusing, the vast majority is misinformed
and wroth with speculative intent.
The FCS will not participate in open debates with those who
seek to “Bible bash” or argue the supposed theological
vulnerabilities of the Christian orthodoxy adhered to by the
FCS. The FCS website is a virtual testimony to the doctrines
of the gospel of Jesus Christ and can stand on their own to
that end. For individuals and institutions intent on arguing
their religious philosophies and opinions—for instance those
who may be experiencing
Saul’s
Syndrome—the FCS provides direction to alternative
sources in hopes of reconciling any misinformation and
misunderstandings they may be experiencing. If after doing so
the individual or institution is still unsatisfied and
desiring further debate, the FCS suggests we lovingly agree to
disagree, appreciate each other’s views on Christianity, and
move on. Our world has enough contention and ill feelings
about religion without our arguing with each other or
spreading additional propaganda. The FCS believes all humans
can peacefully and respectfully coexist with diverse Christian
beliefs, while working together in unity towards a better
tomorrow for all of God’s children.
In those instances where the viewer wishes to respectfully
discuss theological views in an open forum we suggest
participating in the FCS study forum.
Please read the terms and conditions carefully before
participating, as the FCS makes it quite clear that online
conversations must be free from derogatory and mean-spirited
language in order to maintain an environment where the Holy
Ghost will reside and inspire. Any person disregarding these
guidelines will have their study privileges revoked. The Forum
is meant to be an environment to share Christian thoughts,
ideas, and opinions—not a forum to tear down religions or
individuals.
Apologetic Links
There are a number of existing websites that are geared
towards the apologetics community for the LDS faith. Although
the FCS website is well equipped to explain the doctrines of
the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, these apologetics
websites are better prepared to answer specific questions
outside of the main doctrines of Christianity. A few of those
websites are the
